Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal information bunnytokyo.com (“the website”, “I”, “me”) collects, why I collect it, and what choices and rights you have. I try to collect as little as possible.

1Who I am

bunnytokyo.com is run by Elsa A. (online as Bunny / bunnytokyo), a content creator and author based in Tokyo, Japan. I am the person responsible for your personal information (the “data controller”). For anything about your privacy, write to [email protected].

2What I collect

• If you join my mailing list: your email address, the date and time you joined, a record that you confirmed you are 18 or older, and a record that you agreed to receive my newsletter.
• If you email me: your email address and whatever you choose to write.
• Technical information: like most websites, my website host and website tools can record basic technical data, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit and the date and time.

I do not collect payment details through this website, and I do not knowingly collect sensitive information.

3Why I use it

• To send you the password to my private page, and my newsletter (book news, special illustrations and the occasional bonus). I do this because you agreed to it. You can withdraw that agreement at any time.
• To reply to your messages. This is needed to answer what you asked me.
• To keep the website working and secure, which is in my legitimate interest.
• To keep a record that you agreed to join the list and confirmed you are 18 or older.

I do not sell or rent your information, and I do not use it for automated decisions about you.

4Who I share it with

I only share information with services that help me run the website and send emails, such as my website hosting provider and my email provider. They may only use it to provide that service. I may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect rights and safety.

These providers may store data on servers outside Japan or outside your own country, so your information may be transferred internationally. I aim to use providers that protect personal information properly.

5Where the mailing list is kept

The mailing list is stored on my own website’s server, in a private file that is not publicly accessible. It is not currently stored in a third-party marketing service. If that changes in the future, I will update this policy first.

6Cookies and similar technologies

• Private page cookie: when you enter the password for my private page, WordPress saves a small cookie so you do not have to enter it again for a limited time (about 10 days by default).
• Browser storage: the sign-up pop-up saves a small note on your own device to remember whether you joined or closed it. This stays on your device and is not sent to me.
• Website statistics: I use Jetpack, a WordPress tool run by Automattic, to see which pages are visited. It may use cookies and collect technical data such as your IP address and browser. I use it for totals and trends, not to identify you.
• Fonts: my pages load fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google’s servers, which can see your IP address.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the website may not work as intended if you do.

7How long I keep it

• Mailing list: until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete your information. Then I remove your email address.
• Emails you send me: for as long as I need to deal with your message, and a reasonable time afterwards. Then I delete them.
• Server logs: for the short period set by my website host.

8Your rights

Depending on where you live (including Japan under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information, the EU and UK under the GDPR, and California), you may have the right to:

• ask what information I hold about you, and get a copy;
• ask me to correct it, or to delete it;
• ask me to limit or stop using it, or object to how I use it;
• withdraw your agreement at any time, without giving a reason;
• receive your information in a portable format;
• complain to a data protection authority.

To use any of these rights, email [email protected]. I aim to reply within 30 days. To unsubscribe, use the instructions in any email I send you, or reply with “unsubscribe”, and I will remove you promptly.

9Age: 18+ only

Joining my mailing list and opening my private page are for adults aged 18 or older. You confirm this by ticking a box, and I cannot check it independently. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If I find that I have, I will delete it. If you are a parent or guardian and think a child has joined, please contact me and I will remove their information.

10Security

I take reasonable steps to protect your information, such as keeping the mailing list in a private location and protecting access to the website’s admin area. No method of storing or sending information online is completely secure, so I cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach puts your information at real risk, I will take appropriate steps and, where the law requires it or there is a reasonable risk of harm, tell the people affected and the authorities.

My website links to other websites and social platforms. I am not responsible for their privacy practices, so please read their policies.

12Do Not Track

My website does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” signals from browsers.

13Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If I make an important change that affects the mailing list, I will tell subscribers by email. I will not use your information in a materially different way without your agreement.
